Lawson White is a local 3 year old boy who was born with a rare condition called neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. When Lawson was born, his blood would not clot and, from the normal trauma of birth, it left him with a grade 4 brain bleed which could only be treated by surgery to relieve the pressure, along with weeks of countless blood transfusions to correct the problem. Lawson has had 2 brain surgeries, as well as a feeding tube surgery, due to his inability to swallow. After 4 months, Lawson was finally home. Lawson still spends a lot of time in the hospital due to the many complications he experiences. The bleed had led to crippling effects causing severe developmental delay, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and complete blindness, as well as many other long term complications. Despite all this, Lawson is such a happy kid and a true inspiration. He is proven fighter, battling since birth, his laugh is infectious and he loves to be cuddled.
Over the past months, Lawson’s health has deteriorated, doctors continue to struggle to find a prognosis. The Lift for Lawson event was created to raise some funds to assist them with the costs of renovations for equipment necessary to help them with his care, and to help them with travel as they continue to seek medical advice and treatments all over southwestern Ontario. Mostly, it was founded out of love and admiration for a beautiful family that needs our support. Come and help them, show them that they do not stand alone and what the GarageGym, GL Heritage Brewing Company and Team D’Alimonte – Royal LePage Binder Real Estate communities can do when we set our minds and hearts to it.
The event will feature Garage Gym heavyweights dueling in competition. It will begin with a 3 min Rowing race between Winston McAllister and Jeremy D’Alimonte (Lawson’s Uncle and Ryan’s closest friend). Followed by a deadlift and bench press competition between Corey Vultaggio and GG Owner, Tony Smitty. Based on the outcome, GL Heritage, Team Dalimonte and the Garage Gym will donate $1 for every metre rowed and pound lifted by the winners. The event will conclude with GG Trainer Marisa Willms racing in an attempt to regain her 2000m SkiErg WORLD RECORD which was recently broken!
Please come and join us for a pint, lend some encouragement to the athletes and support to the White family!! We are asking for a donation of minimum of $1 (but feel free to give as much as you can 🙂 to the White Family to attend the event. Friday, April 6th from 6-10pm.
